Josiah White’s Residential students and staff participated in a 5K Walk/Run on Josiah White’s Wabash campus on September 29th, 2023. Students began training for the annual event a few times a week starting back in July.
These training sessions provided students with regular, structured opportunities for physical activity, which is a very important contributor to success in recovery from both behavioral and substance abuse issues.
“Our kids have been training for this day for about two months prior and learning to believe in themselves in the process,” said Joshua Smith, Recreation Coordinator. “For our kids, victory is not all about winning a medal. The true victory comes from the sense of accomplishment and boost of self-confidence that finishing this run has given them. The personal growth this event has facilitated for them is something that many of them will cherish for a lifetime. “
After the race, students and staff enjoyed hot dogs for lunch from Nick’s Dog Cart. We are grateful for everyone that came out to participate or cheer on our students!
