Josiah White’s celebrated the start of construction on a new on-campus townhouse with a groundbreaking ceremony at their Wabash Campus. Made possible by a generous capital investment from donor John Sutton, the townhouse will provide stable, on-site housing for direct care staff–removing one of the most significant barriers to growing the workforce that serves Indiana youth.
Kristina Johnson Nussbaum, VP of Advancement, gathered everyone together for brief remarks and a symbolic turning of the soil. The gift came after Sutton, a long-standing supporter, felt called to reach out to the organization.
“One day I woke up, and the Lord laid it on my heart to call [Josiah White’s] and inquire about doing something. You know, it’s nothing I’ve been planning on. It’s just somebody was telling me to do it,” said Sutton.
This project reflects Josiah White’s long-held belief that when staff are cared for, they can fully show up for the youth they serve. The duplex will house two new staff members and their families. It is projected to be completed by the fall season, directly increasing the number of students the organization can welcome and support.
“They [staff] are our number one asset. The great work that we do on a daily basis is all because of the people who decide to give their talents and treasures to this organization,” said Matthew Purkey, President & CEO of Josiah White’s.
In honor of former CEO Rich Davis and his wife Sandy, John Sutton has decided to name the road leading to the housing complex Davis Drive. Sandy Davis shared her appreciation on behalf of her family, sharing, “When the Lord brought us to Josiah White’s, he brought us to a place that we could love forever. And I know what he [John Sutton] means by waking up some morning and knowing you’re supposed to do something.”
A ribbon cutting ceremony open to the public will take place upon the completion of the project.
