Spring has arrived at 50 East Garden Center & Cafe! Our spring opening is Monday, April 21st, and our Growing Teens for Life vocational coaches and 48 student interns have been preparing our greenhouses for the season since the last week of January. Read on to learn more about our seasonal offerings and how the students contribute to each one!
Spring Blooms and Herbs
The students working in our greenhouses are involved from start to finish of our spring growing season. They not only plant the seeds and starts, but also water and care for the plants as they grow. Once the plants are ready, our students help design and set up displays and assist with customer needs.

Spring Decor and Gifts
Student interns can also be found working in our garden center, stocking seasonal items and creating product displays. Every customer who walks through the door gives our students a chance to practice customer service and retail skills—valuable lessons they carry with them beyond their time at Josiah White’s.
This spring, our storefront is stocked with:
- Seeds
- Gardening tools and supplies
- Houseplants and succulents
- Spring home decor
- And much more!

Spring Sips
While you’re here stocking up on all your garden needs, don’t forget to stop by our café for a lavender white mocha or our seasonal “fluffy bunny” iced chai! Our student baristas help create new drinks each season and will be happy to serve you!

When you shop at 50 East, you are planting seeds for the futures of teens in residential treatment! Every day, our student interns are working towards industry-recognized certifications that will give them a head start when applying for jobs after leaving Josiah White’s and heading into the workforce. The students also earn voucher money that is made available to them upon graduation to help provide stability as they transition back into their community.
We can’t wait for you to come see what our students have been working on this spring! Make plans to join us for our spring opening on Monday, April 21st!
