A Partnership Story: Josiah White’s & Lamplighter 515 honor Hilda Clarke
When God’s people work together as one body, the impact can reach far beyond what any one organization or person could accomplish alone.
So when Tom Glassburn, leader of Lamplighter 515, contacted Josiah White’s about a cattle donation, the answer was an easy yes. As a Christ-centered organization committed to enriching the lives of children and families, we saw an opportunity to unite our missions, contributing to something larger than ourselves.
At the heart of this partnership is a calf named Hilda, a name that carries a remarkable legacy. This donation was more significant than anyone could have anticipated.
Honoring Hilda Clarke
The calf we donated was named after Hilda Clarke, also known as Miss Chicken. Hilda began teaching English at White’s Jr./Sr. High School in 1968, where she taught for 40 years. Hilda served in many different roles beyond the classroom at Josiah White’s. She always encouraged others and cared deeply for them, believing that every student deserved a second chance. What some may not know is Hilda was born and raised in Honduras. Growing up in a small town, she came to know Christ through missionaries who shared the gospel. She developed a fierce faith, living by the verse Revelation 3:8,
“See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.”
She often prayed this verse, trusting that God would continue opening doors wherever He called her to serve.
Today in 2026: One Body, One Mission.
Fast forward to today, her faithfulness continues to make an impact and unites missions together. When Tom Glassburn contacted Josiah White’s Director of Support Services, Jay Lynn, a partnership began. As the two began learning of each other’s missions, the idea of donating two of our cattle started to take shape. We were ultimately able to give Oscar, a bull, and Hilda, a calf to help Lamplighter 515, located in Goshen, Indiana. These cattle will help teach artificial insemination techniques to volunteers in Indiana who will train local youth and families in Honduras. Learning this farming skill will create opportunities for families to generate income, helping to fight generational poverty in the country.
This partnership is a reminder that God often works through people and organizations when they come together. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12:12,
“The body of Christ is made up of many parts, each with a unique role.”
By combining our different gifts and resources, we can accomplish far more together than we ever could alone.
As Hilda’s legacy continues, her story has come full circle. From a young girl in Honduras watching missionaries preach the gospel, to a calf bearing her name which now carries hope back to that same country. A simple conversation between Jay and Tom became an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of Hilda Clarke and unite our missions together.
