Back in 1850, Josiah White founded this organization with an ultimate goal of providing spiritual education, which has remained a core part of our identity for the past 170 years. From our chapel program, to our foster homes, to our residential programs, to our staff and board meetings, spiritual life is a part of our DNA here at Josiah White’s. It’s a part of who we are as an organization and not simply something we do.
The spiritual life program at Josiah White’s is dedicated to planting spiritual seeds which bring about lasting and eternal change for the Kingdom of God. One way we do this is by offering our residential students three chapel services per week, a full-time student chaplain (Shane Chellis), and a free Bible. Compass Rose Academy also has a full-time student chaplain (LilyAnn Matchett), chapel once a week, Bible class in their academic curriculum, and opportunities to participate in Bible studies. Shane and LilyAnn are both instrumental in helping young men and women on our campus navigate their questions about God and grow in their relationships with Him.
At Josiah White’s, we are also blessed to be able to offer our employees ample opportunities to grow in their relationship with God. We have several regular connection points in place including monthly staff chapel, Monday morning staff prayer time, staff prayer chain emails, prayer partnerships between residential students and staff, and prayer and devotions at the beginning of every meeting.
Here is what one employee had to say about spiritual life programming at Josiah White’s: “I think the more that we can do to invest in the spiritual life program that pours into our staff members and helps them grow in their spiritual life, the greater the impact will be on our entire organization, the staff, the youth, and the families we serve.”
It is the generosity of donors that will enable us to expand and improve our spiritual life programming, both for our employees, and the children, teens, and families we serve.
If you would like to learn more about Josiah White’s spiritual life programming, we would love for you to join us for our Spiritual Life Benefit Dinner on Saturday, October 8th. To RSVP, click here or contact Tonia Ray at tonia.ray@whitesrfs.org or (260) 563-1158, ext. 1346.
