Last Thursday, September 25, 2025, Josiah White’s proudly hosted our Annual Spiritual Life Benefit Dinner, themed “Brushstrokes and Beyond.” The theme celebrates the idea that it takes many “brushstrokes” from many people in the journeys of the teens and families we serve to create a true masterpiece. We were honored to have our event sponsor, Brotherhood Mutual, in attendance.
Guests enjoyed a unique culinary experience featuring beef tips harvested from our own cows, showcasing our commitment to sustainability. The evening also featured impactful testimonial videos, including the Dean family’s foster care experience and their advocacy for the importance of foster care support. Attendees also heard directly from our residential students, who shared how Josiah White’s has provided them with a second chance and meaningful spiritual growth.
One of the evening’s highlights was a live painting demonstration by artist Haley Vergon, who illustrated the parable of the lost sheep. The artwork included elements unique to our campus, such as our chapel and cows. Before the program, guests had the opportunity to paint a brushstroke on the canvas, leaving their literal mark on a piece that will hang in our chapel for years—a timeless reminder of the difference their support makes.
Musical performances by Andrea and CJ Mills added an extra layer of beauty to the evening, culminating in a moving rendition of “How Great Thou Art”, where the room resonated in harmony and song.
Throughout the night, student servers interacted with guests, providing refreshments and sharing their experiences, giving attendees the chance to connect directly with the students whose lives their generosity impacts.
Two students shared reflections on the evening:
Alexia:
“I felt very proud of being at White’s and that I’m a part of it. A lot of kids don’t have this opportunity and I’m glad I got to be here. I got to help and I don’t know… it just kinda made me feel supported and like loved.”
Brad:
“I’m just thinking in my head like man, there are a lot of people. They’re taking their time out of their day to come here and that shows us that they care, you know. I really appreciate that, and I felt good.”
